Today we are going to talk about XS and XS MAX and will update you on XR in another post. Both phones are same except for their size so we will talk about them collectively. So starting from the name, Apple doesn't change it's trend of using S letter for update of its model for one year, however new additions are there like MAX, which few people didn't liked but for us it's fine because name has nothing to do with functionality of phone and you will be happy if you are satisfied with performance of phone.
This year iphones are not very much different from the last year Iphone X except the new colour Gold, but it doesn't look exactly like Gold however colour is personal choice and it depends on you. Another change which is not very obvious is the the camera module which is a bit larger than Iphone X. This year iphone also has two extra antenna bands, one at the top and another at the bottom near speaker grill and sorry to those who liked the symmetricall speakers grills now it has become aysmetricall due to antenna band. This year change which can be marked significant is that this year iphones are now water resistant to IPS68 as compared to Iphone X IPS 67. But these things doesn't matter a lot to common user overall it's the same phone e.g same glass sandwich, same design, same buttons and mute switch.
Talking about screen 5.8 inch OLED display of iPhone XS and 6.5 inch OLED display of iPhone XS MAX with the same name notch design as of iPhone X with 463 PPI nothing is lot more in the new slot.
Now enough about the externals, let's talk about internals of the phone, well this year iphone comes with A12 chip which is expected to be 10 to 15 percent more faster than it's predecessor with 4GB RAM this year iphones are faster than previous iphone X. With new Neural engine you can expect your phone to be more intelligent. The new ios 12 runs very smoothly over the phones and opening apps is significantly faster than iphone X. Talking about the face ID yes it's also upgraded but there is no reasonable difference. There are few bugs in the MAX but soon they will be over as phones come into the market. Talking about the speakers yes they are quite better and louder than Iphone X and stereo effect. Battery life is almost same as Iphone X and won't stay longer than 4 hours on continuous use that's weird but yoy will have to compromise and charger included in the box is not superfast so you will have to manage.
Talkinng about camera, this is the only field where this year phones are different significantly from last year iphone. However front camera however is same as iphone X, same 7 megapixel senssor with f 2.2 lens. Rear camera includes telephoto camera which is same as of iphone X with 12 megapixel sensor, f 2.4 lens and optically stabilised. But wide angle camera is different significantly and this is the area where apple improved a lot this year, however lens is same as f 1.8 with 12 mega pixel sensor but these mega pixel are larger physically and can collect more light for you. There is a new feature which apple named smart HDR which technically a common person can't understand but overall it will give you better detail and contrast. Another new feature is background blur in portrait mode same like Samsung but again its better than Samsung background blur. Talking about video recording now its coupled to stero audio recording, the front camera has stabilisation now and rear camera has software stabilisation. However if you will compare it to Pixel 2 which is considered king of Cameras than you might have to place it on number 2.
Now coming to price these phones are not just expensive but very expensive starting from minimum 999USD for XS to maximum of almost 1450USD for XS MAX. 64 GB variant of XS will cost you 999USD, 256 GB XS will cost you 1149USD and 512 GB XS will cost you 1349USD. XS MAX is 100USD more expensive from 1049USD for 64GB, 1249USD for 256 GB and 1449USD for 512GB.
Next question is should you buy it, well if you like new phones and an apple fan than you should but you won't find major difference from iphone X. We will suggest you to wait for pixel 3 and than decide or it's also fine to pass a year with your current phone and wait for next Iphone.
