Well honestly speaking answer is not in favour of yes, when you look at the macbook air it's built quality is awesome even better than most of the windows laptop of this range in 2018. The metal body design of Apple's than flagship is not only you are looking for in 2018.
one of the major backdrops of old model mackbook is display, 2014 model comes with 1366×768 without retina display, contrast is not good and viewing angles are also not upto the standards of 2018 although back in 2014 it was premium device but things have been changed a lot in few years.
Now if you are thinking to load it with heavy work like photo editing than you are mistaken, most of the Macbook of that era came with corei5 and 4 GB RAM, and ofcourse storage is always an expensive area for Apple with only 128GB at basic level comapred 1Tb now a days, you will be reuqired to carry an external hard 24×7.
However you can do normal stuff quite easily and RAM is upgradable to 8GB. Talking about battery life it's still good upto 7 hour's on full charge. One more postive thing is it's wifi connectivity, you can enjoy super fast internet of today's quality on macbook air 2014. Kepboard is good with backlighting and touchpad is very responsive even better than most of the budget laptops of today
So overall Macbook Air is good fot lighter stuff like watching videos(except display), internet surfing, doing office work, but if you want to play games and photo editing than you will be disappointed.
